Check Point® Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced that Fitchburg State University (FSU), a public educational institution based in Massachusetts, has deployed Check Point's Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Software Blade - securing sensitive data and addressing critical compliance requirements, while simplifying IT management. With a growing network of over 38,000 students, faculty and alumni using online services, the university required a strong DLP solution that could safeguard confidential information, such as Social Security numbers and credit card data, while educating their students and faculty on enforcing stronger security practices.

"Check Point's DLP solution stood out for providing the best functionality, user awareness and value," said Sherry Horeanopoulos, information security officer at Fitchburg State University. "The deployment was very simple. Within a week, we were able to integrate Check Point DLP with our existing security infrastructure. It's given us a lot of insight into potential issues, helping us prevent unintentional data loss before a breach can occur."

With over 70 percent of tuition payments coming from credit cards, it has been critical for FSU to ensure any and all data that passes through the network is scanned, protected and meets both PCI compliance and emerging state regulations - without creating network downtime. Shortly after deploying Check Point DLP, the university found that staff members who were simply trying to do their job were unaware that they were sending sensitive data in email communications. The Check Point DLP Software Blade not only enables IT administrators to prohibit sensitive information from being sent, it also alerts and educates users when data is at risk - significantly reducing the number of potential incidents.

"Data protection and compliance are top security priorities for us. We looked at other vendor solutions in the market and were overwhelmed by the amount of time, money and resources they would cost us," added Horeanopoulos. "Then, we saw Check Point DLP and how easily it ran with our existing gateway. It was literally up and running in matter of minutes. We now have a unified and central point of management for all of our security efforts."

"Our DLP solution gives our customers a simple way to strengthen the security layer at the gateway with over 250 pre-defined best practice policies tuned to optimize security, performance and meet compliance requirements," said Juliette Sultan, head of global marketing at Check Point Software Technologies. "By leveraging the organization's existing infrastructure and implementing a unique combination of technology and user awareness, we're making DLP a more effective and affordable solution."

Based on the Software Blade ArchitectureTM, the Check Point DLP Software Blade combines technology and user awareness to help businesses move data loss from detection to prevention. The Check Point DLP Software Blade can be deployed on all Check Point security gateways and is also available as a dedicated DLP-1 appliance.

"The flexibility of the Software Blade Architecture has been excellent and we are confident in the level of visibility and protection we have with Check Point DLP. It's helped us simplify security, while protecting our networks and user data," concluded Horeanopoulos.
